Staying at Ampleforth
A Benedictine Monastery witnesses to what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.
Benedictine Communities have always been famous for their hospitality and a warm welcome is offered to all who come and stay with us.
The Rule of St Benedict which is firmly based on the values of the Gospel says that a monastery is never without guests. Last year we had over 10,000 adults and children staying as well as a large number of day visitors.
Those who come whether fellow Catholics, other Christians, people of other faiths or those seeking meaning in their lives are welcome to share in our monastic prayer in the Choir of the Abbey Church.
Many visitors come in a group and follow one of the retreats or courses offered by the monks. (see our Retreat Programme for 2011)
Individual guests also come for a time of quiet reflection and any who would like some guidance from a monk should ask at the Pastoral Office.
We can accommodate up to 47 in our various Guest rooms.
Alban Roe House offers spacious dormitory style accommodation. This is mostly for school and youth groups and can accommodate up to 55.
With St Benedict we believe that our guests bring us a special blessing for in them we have an encounter with Christ who illumines all human beings. All are welcome and the poor and those who come as pilgrims are especially valued.
Please contact us if you have any queries or wish to come and stay.
