Disabled Access and Facilities for Guests
Ampleforth is built on a hillside and so many of its key facilities are at different levels: the Abbey Church, guest accommodation and refectories. However, much work has been done to make access as easy as possible.
There are external and internal ramps and guided pathways for access to the Abbey Church and the main guest accommodation in The Grange. There is also a ramp to the principal level in the church and ramps into the monks’ choir. In addition, on the ground floor of The Grange there is an en-suite double room.
All of the above facilities help to mitigate the difficult terrain of the Abbey and College which for the severely disabled and very elderly could be a challenge. In addition, an electric scooter and manual wheelchair are also available. Guests who feel that they need further assistance should ring the Hospitality Office well before their intended visit to check further details.
Guide Dogs and Hearing Aid Dogs are welcome but other pets are not. Hearing Aid loops are in place in the choir and nave of the Abbey Church and speaking venues and can be activated on request. There is limited Disabled Parking behind the monastery building at the lower end of the drive.
